Rumor and speculation…

Penny stocks are that much more susceptible to rumor because of their small market valuation. Prices can often shift significantly when only a small handful of stocks have been traded.

That, and most rumors that do the rounds about penny stocks are complete and utter fiction. So if you have got a holding, its value is that much more likely to have been determined by rumors from (unreliable) sources unknown than the actual business fundamentals.
